Tomorrow is one of my best friend, Katie’s, birthday so me and the girls took her out for an early celebratory lunch today on Las Olas. She came with exciting news of her own, having gotten engaged over the weekend while she and her boyfriend were in Key West. Of course she kept the news from us for about 10 minutes, hiding her left hand under the table as she listened to us rattle on about boring work news she missed on Friday. But we sure were excited when she finally blurted out the news, in her casual manner of “oh yeah then we went on a bike ride and at the end he proposed.” No biggie. Best birthday gift ever, I’m sure. Happy Birthday Katie!!
The big event of the weekend
The half marathon was wonderful. Shannon, Christine and Katie all did amazing and I was so incredibly proud of them. Jumping in briefly with Katie and Christine at mile 11 was so much fun, although it made me wish I could have run the whole race with them!
The costumes that some people wore during the half marathon were crazy. I think people had these outlandish ideas like, “it would be so awesome if I wore a full little mermaid outfit to run 13.1 miles!!” but then they didn’t really think about how this idea would pan out when they, you know, actually ran 13.1 miles. We saw so many people looking so uncomfortable by the end of the race, holding up their costume and sweating profusely. Some of my favorites (that we caught on camera):
I give them full points for creativity.
Although this marathon was so much fun, my one complaint is that it was super hard to be a spectator of this race! They didn’t allow people along the course so we were kind of stuck to the end of the race. Usually hubs and I are amazing race cheerers, hitting up as many spots as possible along the course. This time however, we were only able to walk up to mile 11 to catch the girls there before running down to catch them a the finish line. I wish we could have seen them more often, but it was so amazing to get to share this race with them even a little bit!
What a great weekend!
Although baby is keeping me from running the Disney Princess Half Marathon, (yes, I had to stop training when I found out I was pregnant, I was so nauseous for the first few months that running made me heave-it was lovely) hubs, noodle and I will still be there, cheering on the running club! And we will be the loudest, most supportive group in the crowed. Saturday we are getting in the Disney mood by spending the afternoon at Magic Kingdom, and I seriously could not be more excited. I haven’t been there in years and “It’s a Small World” is calling my name. Ha.
And let me just say, I need to get myself over to the happiest place on earth, stat. Yesterday morning hubs and I woke up to a broken fridge/freezer and it’s still not fixed. Which means I’m going on day 2 without cereal. Baby and I are NOT pleased. Luckily, my sister lives 1/4 mile down the street so we were able to throw what food we could save into some bags and drive them over to her apartment at 7 am. Good morning sunshine!!! Now take our food.
Next post will include some fun Disney World and 1/2 marathon pictures!!!
So the yogurt club has expanded. What yogurt club you may ask? Well after Christine and I went last Friday we decided that it must become a weekly event because really, what better way to look forward to your Friday than by ending it with frozen yogurt? Except this week we went on Thursday instead. And we invited along 2 more people. Hence why it is now a club. (Because admit it, a club with only 2 people would just be sad). And let me tell you, I like looking forward to a frozen treat every single week. And to make it even better Shannon and I decided to form our yogurt club into a running/yogurt club! oh yeah! Everyone was excited about that one. Real excited. (And by that I mean, only me and Shannon were excited). And THEN we decided that we would train for the Disney Princess Half Marathon, which is going to be in February 2012. You see that girls? I put it in writing. Which means we can’t back out now because then we would be embarrassed over the internet because everyone would know that we gave up. Okay? So get training….
On a totally unrelated note on the drive back from our island last weekend the sky was gorgeous. I’m talking Jesus cloud gorgeous. Yes, Jesus clouds. It’s when the clouds are all puffy and pretty like the pictures of clouds you see in hokey email forwards you get about never giving up and about how God is always watching you. Not that there’s anything wrong with those emails…they just always seem to have the fluffy Jesus clouds. So there you have it. Next time you see them you’ll know what they’re called.
The weekend is right around the corner and I am so ready.
